Status of Missions

The BLUE BASHERS have not yet returned from their mission… Something must have delayed them.

SMILING NATE arrives, battered and bloodied, but in one piece. He drops to one knee and gives you his report:

Forgive my lateness, your Lordship – my mission unfortunately attracted the attention of a dedicated Spy Hunter in the employ of an unknown party. I was able to lose him before returning to you, but I am certain he will be waiting for me when I return to the field.

SMILING NATE
Specialty: DISGUISE
Survived Missions: 1
Currently hunted by an unknown spy hunter.

(This agent can still be sent on missions, but if he fails his roll, his HUNTER will get a chance to attack him. You can either trust that your agent would survive such an encounter, count on him not failing the roll, or send him or another agent to track down and eliminate or turn the SPY HUNTER.)

Despite these difficulties, I have procured a good deal of information for you:

Intelligence Report

"Free" West Luau is under your nominal control, but contact between the Capital and the provinces has been so severely limited for the last 50 years that little is known about the populations and their loyalties – in most instances, we don't even know what Lord, if any, rules an area.

General information:

As best I can tell, West Luau is roughly divided into 11 provinces.

5 provinces make up the border between us and the Crusader-held territories:

Northwood
The best source of lumber for shipbuilding in all of West Luau. Unknown number of logging villages. Numerous sightings of Crusader raiding parties.

Lake Fadup
An enormous freshwater reservoir unfortunately shared with the Crusader-held territories. Numerous fishing villages dot the coast. Usually one of the richer provinces, but reports indicate recent unrest – unclear if related to the current Crusader invasion or some other cause.

The Southern Jungle
Took the brunt of the current Crusader invasion. At least 3 villages sacked. Unknown number of remaining villages. Separated from Crusader-held territory by the River Fnarp, with Fnarp Bridge providing the only safe crossing. Numerous refugees have fled to other provinces.
SPECIFIC INTELLIGENCE: According to refugees, a coven of Anti-Pantsers is operating in the Southern Jungle, preying on fleeing refugees and spreading blasphemous and heretical beliefs about the nature of God, the church, and the need to wear pants in public. I have not been able to verify any of these claims, but if true, we must assume that it is some mutation of the "no pants, no sin" schismatic group of the last century, which claimed that pants were an invention of the devil forced on Adam after his fall, and that to have no pants is to have no sin, encouraging all manner of debauchery and depravity, claiming that as long as those involved remained pantsless, they also remained sinless.

The Hook Coast
Largely spared from the current Crusader invasion. Once home to the wealthy trading city of Hookbay Post. The city was burned to the ground during the war with the Crusaders 50 years ago. According to rumor, a Pantaloonian calling himself COUNT SEAHAWK claims rulership of the city, though the legitimacy of his claim and how much of his fiefdom still exists is unknown.

One Dot Island
According to tax records from the last century: small but densely populated, One Dot Island is blessed with rich iron deposits and is home to the most skilled blacksmiths in all of West Luau. Largely spared from the current Crusader invasion.

6 more provinces make up the "safer" Western side of the island:

The Capital Plains
Rich farmlands surrounding the Capital. Home to 8 known villages. 4 more are listed in ancient tax records but have not had contact with the Capital in the last 50 years. If the lost villages still exist and contact could be reestablished, you could significantly expand your tax base. (+1 WEALTH for each village.)

The Arid North Coast
Sparsely populated by fishermen and pearl divers. Scattered reports indicate that some Crusader raiding parties may have made it this far.

The Mountains
Numerous mountains cluster around The Great Smoking Peak. 2 large cities are known: Minertown and The Mount of Scribes, making this province one of the most densely populated and therefore tax-yielding in West Luau. However, the mountainous terrain makes travel and communication particularly difficult; the number of villages existing in this area is completely unknown. Tribes of mountain cannibals are rumored to still live in the higher peaks.

The Fangs of the Desert
Home of Hospital Abbey. Outside of the Abbey, there has been no contact with the rest of the province for several decades, despite its proximity to the Capital.

Poison Island
Almost entirely uncharted. Population unknown. Loyalty unknown.

South Sickle Island
The largest of West Luau's coastal islands. Originally settled by retired war heroes from Tropicana. The island has not had contact with the Capital in decades. However, I was able to gather the following SPECIFIC INTELLIGENCE: the inhabitants of South Sickle Island recently won a naval battle just off their shores. Whether this was against the Crusader force or another antagonist is unknown, but it is clear that the South Sickle Islanders are particularly warlike and loyal Pantaloonians, and possess a well disciplined militia and small navy. If contact could be reestablished, they could be a great boon to West Luau's military.

Looks like Lord Citrus has some important governmental decisions to make…
